Sahil Khedekar won the chess tournament conducted for students of Shiksha Sadan HS, Priol. The tournament was organised by 41er Club No. 66 in association with the Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA). Mihir Bhomkar finished second, followed by Samarth Ghaisas in third place. Ishant Khedekar, Bhumi Khedekar, Ninad Totekar, Sanil Naik and Ved Gaude finished fourth to eighth respectively. Uday Sardesai, secretary of the club, Ponda, was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Also present were Dr Vilas Naik, past chairman; Sagar Sakordekar, PTCA president; Anand Kurtikar, PTCA executive committee member; arbiter Milind Gaude; headmistress Anagha Kulkarni; physical education teacher Dayanand Naik; and teachers Vidhya Ghaisas, Priyanka Mardolkar and Uma Prabhugaonkar.
Hockey trials for senior men’s nationals
PANAJI: Hockey Goa will conduct selection trials to pick the Goa men’s team for the 16th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Rourkela, Odisha, from October 7 to 20. The trials will be held on September 7 at the astro turf of Peddem stadium. Players have been asked to report with their kits to Riyaz Kambali at 3.30 pm. Players who are not registered with Hockey India have been advised to complete their registration details.
Goa pickleball trials on Sept 8, 9
PANAJI: The Goa Pickleball Association (GPA) will conduct selection trials on September 8 and 9 to pick the Goa team for the 10th National Sub Junior, Junior, Senior and Veteran National Pickleball Championship 2026-27. The national championship will be held from October 2 to 4 in Kochi, Ernakulam, Kerala, under the aegis of the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA). The trials will be held from 3 pm onwards at PHQ – Play Headquarters, Vaddem, Vasco, across the U10, U12, U14, U16, U19, 19+ Open, 35+, 50+ and 60+ categories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Players can participate in a maximum of two events, which may be in the same or different age categories, subject to eligibility. Registrations are open until September 6 at https://bit.ly/GPAtrials. Sub-junior boys’ football selection trials
PANAJI: The Goa Football Association (GFA) will conduct selection trials for the Sub-Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 in North and South Goa.
The North Zone trials will be held at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on September 5 from 3 pm, while the South Zone trials are scheduled at Chowgule Ground, Gogol, Margao, on September 7 from 3 pm.
Players born between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2014, both dates inclusive, are eligible to attend the trials. Players have been asked to report at the respective venues with their full playing kit and meet head coach Maccan Pereira.
