The Kings School, Margao and St Rock’s High School, Tolleacanto emerged as the winners of Goa Sevens Premier League U-14 Inter-School football tournament, organised by GSPL in association with Ameblim Sports Club in the girls and boys category respectively, at Assolna ground, recently.

The Kings School got the better of Perpetual Convent High School, Navelim 2-1 via penalty shootout after both teams failed to score in the regulation time. Earlier in the semi-finals, Perpetual Convent edged out St Xavier’s HS via tie-breaker while The Kings School managed to squeeze past Regina Martyrum High School via shootout.

In the boys final, despite starting strongly, St Rock’s couldn’t find the breakthrough. They dominated the first half but had to walk into the breather on level terms with Mount Mary’s HS, Chinchinim. Crossing over, Mount Mary’s tried to get into the game but hardly went past St Rock’s midfield. At the other end, St Rock had their chances but their strikers just couldn’t find the target. In the tie-breaker, St Rock HS walked away superior and clinched the title.

GSPL president Benjamin Silva, tournament coordinator Charlton Furtado, vice-president Joao Rebello and development officer Anthony Dias were present for the final. Speaking on the occasion, Silva said, “This is the first time we had the U-14 Inter-school football and we received a great response. The reason we organised this tournament was to give a feel of sevens football to the youngsters and they enjoyed the sport. We will try and have this sport for school children annually.”
