Konkan Warriors of Kerala emerged champions of the 4th Sarsangan Inter-State National Saraswat Futsal Championship, defeating PDK Kings of Goa 2-1 on penalties in a closely contested final at the We For Fatorda Sports Complex, Agalli, Fatorda.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai presented the championship trophies and prizes in the presence of footballer Mangirish Lavanis, who was the guest of honour.
The four-day championship featured 12 Saraswat teams, including four from outside Goa, bringing together players from different parts of the country through sport.
Konkan Warriors received the championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while PDK Kings, the first runners-up, received Rs 10,000. Antruz Rising Stars of Goa and Konkan Samurais of Kerala shared the second runners-up honours, receiving Rs 5,000 each.
Konkan Warriors defeated Antruz Rising Stars in the semifinals, while PDK Kings overcame Konkan Samurais to set up the final.
Sathanand Pai of Konkan Warriors was adjudged Player of the Tournament as well as Player of the Final for his outstanding contribution, particularly as the team’s goalkeeper and captain. Ashwin R Kamath, also of Konkan Warriors, won the Golden Boot.
Sampad Kamat of PDK Kings was named Best Goalkeeper after not conceding a goal during regulation time. Rishikesh Sarma of Konkan Warriors won the Best Playmaker award, while Jaydeep Nadkarni of Antruz Rising Stars was adjudged Best Defender.
The Emerging Player award went to 16-year-old Krishna Manohar Bhat of Konkan Samurais, while Angle FC were named the Best Disciplined Team for committing the fewest fouls in the championship.
