Kyan Mavany defeated Arhan Gaunkar 4-3(3), 4-2 in a high-pressure boys u-14 final at the ongoing Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2025 at the Panjim Gymkhana courts in the state capital.
Kyan overcame a tough challenge from his rival on an evening that also saw a flurry of final matches across age groups. In the girls u-10 final, Samaira Patil held her nerve in a nail-biting decider to beat Subhagya Manda 2-4, 4-1, 11-9.
In the boys u-10 title clash, Devaansh Naik was in imperious touch as he downed Arsh Sardesai 4-0, 4-2. Among the seniors, Sanjay Lotlikar and David Mendonsa combined experience and guile to win the masters 55+ men's doubles final with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Surjit Lamba and Caetano Fernandes.
In other matches, Asuntha Fleming made swift progress to the ladies singles semi-finals, dispatching Tanya Shelyazhynska 6-2 in their quarter final clash. She later returned to the court with Nagesh Naik in the mixed doubles semi-final, where the duo breezed past Raisa Menezes and Santosh Gorawar 7-5, 6-2. The other semi-final saw siblings Aishwarya Nunes and Siddharth Nunes get past Tanya Shelyazhynska and Arup Angle 6-2, 7-5 to book their spot in the final.
The men’s doubles draw moved through the pre-quarterfinal and quarter-final stages. Raju Kundaikar and Santosh Gorawar made the biggest statement of the round, registering two 6-0 wins on the trot”first against Naveen Daivajna and Neville Menezes in the pre-quarters and then against Ganesh Vernekar and Bhalchandra Gaitonde in the quarters, respectively. Mano-Bulu, Arup-Sachin, and Nagesh-Siddharth also moved into the semifinals with convincing wins against Lyndon and Pankaj Naik (6-2), Ojaswi Mann and Saurish Naik (7-5), and Anurag Agarwal and Jai Gill (6-1), respectively.
In the girls u-14 segment, Tvisha Sardesai was dominant in her 4-0, 4-2 win over Bhaavya Bhoomkar, confirming her spot in the final. In the boys u-18 segment, Shreyas Patil edged out Punit Fadte in a hard-fought semi-final, rallying back from a set down to win 2-4, 4-1, 10-8.
