MARGAO: Maina Sports Club beat Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 5-2 to move into the semi-final of the Velim Panchayat Cup football tournament organised by Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino Velim, played at Church ground, Velim on Friday. Maina scored first when Josley Gomes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot in the 8th minute. Spurred by the lead, Maina upped the ante and two minutes later, Clive Colaco doubled the lead. Josly Gomes then struck a second time in the 21st minute. In the 28th minute, Nevile Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Myson Fernandes inflated the tally when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 32nd minute. Alex Rodrigues reduced the deficit in the 41st minute and nine minutes later, scored his brace in the 50th minute.
