DULER: Goa Velha Sports Club registered a hard-fought 6-5 win via tiebreaker over Augustias Sporting Club Pomburpha to enter the quarter-finals of the Calangute Panchayat Soccer Cup, organised by Calangute Association, played at Poriat grounds, on Friday. In a closely fought encounter, the teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at the of the regulation time. In a barren first half, Goa Velha’s Iyno D’Souza missed open sitters. Finally on crossing over, they took the lead through Sairaj Kaukonkar who scored from inside the penalty box, 1-0. However, Augustias colts came back into the match with Pundalik Naik scoring the equaliser with a neat placement, 1-1. In the penalty shootout, for Goa Velha side, Nilesh Mangueskar, Kunal Kundaikar, Iyno D’Souza, Suresh Thapa and Anthony Pawar scored on target, while Augustias colts scored through Raju Padashi, Umesh Pujar, Rohan Naik and Ashvek Malgaonkar.
PWD win Civil Services cricket tourney
MARGAO: PWD defeated Electricity Department by one wicket to emerge champions of the Civil Services limited overs cricket tournament organised by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, played at Colvale ground. Put in to to bat first, Electricity Department scored 95 in their inning with Chetan Naik top-scoring with 28. Shailesh Naik was the pick of the bowlers for PWD as he grabbed 4 for 14.
