Being gullible could cost you big time. And, if the case of a footballer is to be believed then one wonders how this Margao-based youngster was sucked into promises being made by a Nigerian national who promised him a berth into FC Goa for the upcoming Indian Super League season.
Right now, there is nothing that has come the youngster's way as his father rues paying this Nigerian a whopping Rs 4.25 lakh for a slot with Goa's only ISL franchise.
The wait and patience is over as a first case of cheating and duping a footballer has been reported at the Margao Police Station on Wednesday (Sept9) as Nazir Beig, resident of Gouliwaddo, Fatorda complained against a Nigerian national Sadiq Saleh alleging of duping the footballer to the tune of Rs 4.25 lakh for arranging an enrollment of his son Irfan Beig in the FC Goa team for the 2nd edition of ISL.
Irfan is a promising footballer and has played for the local team Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and also had a brief stint with the now defunct Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
It is alleged that Saleh took money in May and promised that Ifran will be in FC Goa team before August this year. After confronting Saleh on his affidavit cum undertaking about receiving the money, the Nigerian even promised that he would return the money on August 24,2015.
However, Nazir Beig is still waiting, aggreived over the fact that his son not only failed to get his son's name enrolled with FC Goa but the huge amount he paid the Nigerian is no where in sight after being promised that the same would be returned.
When Nazir found out that Sadiq Saleh is no where in Goa nor answering his calls, he immediately lodged a complaint with the Margao Police station.
When The Goan contacted P K Mukherjee, Administrator of FC Goa to shed light on the issue he reiterated that he does not knew Irfan or any Nigerian national by the name Saleh.
"I have never heard about the player and that Nigerian agent. FC Goa has nothing to do with his case," Mukherjee hit back when prodded.
Saleh claims to be FC Goa coach
Reports reaching The Goan on Thursday pointed to the fact that this Nigerian national wanders around Goa, checking into various hotels posing himself as the coach of FC Goa. The 52-year-old wears a FC Goa jersey and claims to be the official recruiter for FC Goa. So far he has managed to net one footballer into his trap, promising ISL glory. The so called agent hails from Jos Plateau State, Nigeria and has moved into Goa from Delhi a few years back. As per sources his current location is Panaji and shifts base from Margao to Calangute.
"We have no Nigerian as our coach. I am not aware of any developments regarding (Irfan) such a player. Would like to make it clear that FC Goa has no employee by the name of Sadiq Saleh,"
