Our Lady of Carmel Church, Arambol had mixed fortunes in recently concluded All Goa Altar Servers football tournament organised by the Vocation Commission for Diocesan Clergy (VCDC) in association with the John Paul II Foundation for Sports Goa held and organised by the St Lawrence Church, Agassaim.
The boys team from Arambol defeated St Alex Church, Curtorim in tiebreaker 3-0, while their girls team lost the final to St Francis Xavier Church, Velim by a solitary goal in the tiebreaker. Jordan Fernandes was adjudged as the best player in the boys category from the Arambol team for saving three penalty kicks as well as scoring in the tiebreaker. Sharufa Fernandes of Velim was adjudged as the best player in the girls category for saving two penalty kicks and scoring from her own kick.
In an exhibition match held earlier, Diocesan Priests team defeated the Seminary of Our Lady, Saligao by 4-1. Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao was the chief guest for the tournament, while FC Goa defender Seriton Fernandes was the guest of honour. GFA President Elvis Gomes and St Andre MLA Francis Silveira were the other guests.
The event was organised under the leadership of VCDC Director Fr Derick Fernandes, who welcomed all and organised the event with the support of Fr Mario and Fr Jerome of the Agassaim Parish. Melinda Pereira proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the John Paul II Foundation for Sports Goa.
