In the year 2013 Manchester United Fans Club (MUFC) GOA was formed for all the Manchester United supporters in the state. Very recently, the club succeeded in achieving official recognition from Manchester United, the biggest football club in the world and one of the biggest sports corporate entities in the world. Two years later after gaining the official status last month the club name has been changed to Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC).
Manchester United now recognizes Goa and the supporters living in Goa. To confirm their official status MUSC GOA's name has been put up on the official website of Manchester United (manutd.com) along with their committee details. Another confirmation is they got a letter signed from the current manager of Man Utd, Louis Van Gaal welcoming them to the supporters club network.
The procedure to get official involves a lot of time, dedication and passion and has been termed as impossible at one point as well, but the current President of the club Brendon D'Souza fought against all odds to do it and has achieved the aim of getting official status.
The magnitude of this achievement is huge as it is a difficult task, involves strict paper work and a minimum of 50 people with an official Manchester United membership by duly filling a form and paying a sum of 42 pounds each in order for the club to gain the status of being an official supporters club. The procedure to get official recognition from a club like Manchester United is huge and what has been achieved is definitely a big deal for the state.
MUSC GOA is a supporters club based in Goa that organizes match screenings; meet ups, picnics and other various events for Manchester United fans in the state. Recently they also organized the launch of the new Adidas-MUFC kit in Goa.
“It was a little tough procedure to gain official recognition because we had to have a minimum of 50 official members by paying a membership fee of 42 pounds each. From the fact that most of our members are students it was a little expensive affair and we did manage to change the name of our club from Manchester United Fans Club to Manchester United Supporters Club which is the official name given to recognized fan clubs in the country,” informed Brendon D'Souza, president of Manchester United Supporters Club, Goa.
“There is a criteria that needs to be followed in order to retain this status. For instance we need to have 50 official members with a yearly membership and also done some community service,” concluded Brendon.
