Shagun Shinde (34-36 kgs category) and Chandrika Pujari (42-44 kgs category) bagged silver at the Sub-Junior Girls and Boys National Boxing Championship held in Bellary, Karnataka.
In the final, Shagun went against Maharashtra’s Aarya Garde in the fight for gold but lost by a score of 5:0. Chandrika gave her best shot against Haryana’s Joni but lost by a score of 4:1. Chandrika was awarded with the Best Challenger Boxer for her hardwork and dedication during the course of the championship.
The two boxers will now be in the national camp and could stand a high chance of playing for India in international competitions.
A total of 12 boxers represented Goa at the Nationals out of which four girls and one boy made it to the quarter-finals. The team was accompanied by coaches, Purshottam Fadte, Arif Khan, Nilesh Khandolkar, Vishwanath Govekar and manager and coach, Lavania Kunchi.
“This is the Result of the one month extensive boxing camp that we had for our boxers. We are very pleased with the cooperation of Director Coaching now who responded positively. These 2 boxers will be in the National Camp in view of the forthcoming Sub Junior International Boxing Championship to be held soon,” said Lenny da Gama, vice-president, Goa Boxing Association.
