MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union booked their place in the final of the 27th All Goa Our Lady of Merces Inter-Village Football Tournament after edging past Fr Agnel YC Paroda 3-2 on penalties in a tense semifinal.
The match remained goalless after regulation time, with both sides creating opportunities but unable to find the decisive breakthrough.
Navelim goalkeeper Jeet Gupta was in outstanding form, making crucial saves to deny Godwin Fernandes and Livan Clement. At the other end, Fr Agnel YC Paroda custodian Ravil Fernandes also stood firm, keeping out attempts from Sam Pereira and Richard Costa.
The tie-breaker saw Navelim hold their nerve as Richard Costa, Nash and Aden converted their spot-kicks. Paroda found the net through Livan and Godwin, but Navelim prevailed 3-2 to secure their place in the title clash.
Navelim will face the winners of the second semifinal between CRCC Chinchinim and Sinquerim SC in the final.
