With FC Goa slated to play their first home match of the 3rd ISL on October 8 at Nehru stadium, acting SAG Executive Director VM Prabudessai along with Sukhvinder Singh, CEO of FC Goa, visited the stadium on Friday for inspection.
Speaking to The Goan post inspection, Prabhudessai expressed total satisfication at the works undertaken by his department and also thanked the central government for providing Rs 5 crore for refurbishing the stadium in view of the U-17 world Cup. The ED looked at the pitch, its condition and other aspects like the players dressing room, referees room, match commissioner, VVIP enclosure and other facilites and expressed overall satisfaction about the venue.
Prabhudessai said that FC Goa's suggestion was taken into consideration and he assured to do the minor changes and hand over the ground to FC Goa in perfect shape. Others present were Laxmikant Mangueshkar, Stadium Manager and Dipak Lotlikar, Assistant Engineer, SAG.
Meanwhile, with the 3rd edition of Indian Super League looming, there is feverish excitement among the Gaur fans, with private cars and two wheelers painted with FC Goa team logo, stickers and the franchise's theme song being played at various joints in Goa, just to build up the excitement ahead of the ISL opener. Thousands of FC Goa flags, easily identified by the orange Gaur were on display in South Goa. The promoters, Football Sports Development Ltd. Friday announced that the league will feature 61 games spread across 79 days played in a home-away format followed by two-legged semi-finals and the final. The ‘Super Sunday’ final is scheduled on December 18. Venue for the finals will be announced at a later date. All the matches will kick off at 7pm.
