Remember those rumours that got you all excited about Coldplay’s concert in India somewhere in November? You were saving up for it, weren’t you? Well, we’ve got news for you. There’s a small chance you may have to sell a kidney or two. Yes, that’s a rehashed joke about the iPhone but we couldn’t help it, especially since the iPhone 7 will cost an arm and a leg, or a kidney.
So it’s been two months since those rumours started. The date was practically set in stone “ November 19. Now, the Mumbai daily, Mid-Day has confirmed the date. They have also mentioned the price.
Before you read the next line, you may want to sit down. The paper quoted a ‘well-placed source’ who said, "Yes, Coldplay is set to perform in Mumbai on November 19 at the MMRDA and the show is put together by Global Citizen Festival run by Chris Martin." According to news report, the official tickets will go live on the website Book My Show on September 12 and prices start from Rs 25,000 to the highest category tickets at Rs 5 lakh a ticket.
Why do we have to pay so much for tickets to see Coldplay? Well, it’s not just Coldplay you may see. It’s also a host of, hold your breath, Bollywood stars, the Maharashtra CM and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. Apparently, it’s a charity show, so they’re going to be charging a bomb.
In the past, Sting, Iron Maiden and others came here, and tickets started from as little as Rs 500-1000 and went up to Rs 5000. So why the massive inflation? It could have a lot to do with the supposed charity show they’re all talking about? Who is this they? We’re not sure either. But it could also have something to do with the fact that Coldplay is currently one of the most expensive bands in the world. Their fee alone will run into crores, unless they’re doing this for free. Then there’s flight tickets for the band and their team, cargo, hotels and more. Entertainment tax is quite the pain in the….as we were saying, it’s not going to be cheap. But is this all true? Who knows.
