Goa's Niraj Saripalli (2107 rating) put up an impressive performance in the second round of the 55th National Challengers Chess Championship to continue his rich form in the tournament, held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Sunday.

Niraj is now in joint lead with two points after his second round win over Pathak Vivek Kumar. Goa's Ameya Audi (2287 rating) is also unbeaten so far, but the lad played out a draw after an intense battle against Sachin Malik. Ameya now moves on to 1.5 points. After a narrow defeat in the first round, Devesh Anand Naik -- another Goanin the fray -- put up a stellar performance in the round two as he got the better of Gaurav Roy to open his points tally with a point. Goa's Sairaj Dilip Vernekar suffered yet another defeat in the second round and is yet to open his account. Earlier in the first round, Niraj made light work of Panwar Krish Navratan while Ameya showed his supremacy over Ghelani Dhairya. Niraj now faces an uphill task in round three as he takes on IM Padmini Rout who is tied at the second position, while Ameya faces Santanu Borpatra Gohain.
