Nuvem Handballers bagged double crown in the State Handball Championship organised by Shiroda Sporting Club in association with Goa Handball Association and Sports Authority of Goa at Karai Church ground, Shiroda.
In the men's finals, Nuvem Handballers defeated Siolim Handballers 14-11. At the breather the score was 6-5 in favour of Nuvem Handballers. The third place was bagged by St Joseph Sports Club (A) who defeated St Joseph Sports Club (B).
Earlier in semi-finals, Nuvem Handballers defeated St Joseph Sports Club (A) 10-9, while Siolim Handballers beat St Joseph Sports Club (B) 17-08. Alvito D'Costa and Jaison Fernandes of Nuvem Handballers were adjudged as best player and best goalkeeper respectively.
In the women's finals, Nuvem Handballers defeated St Joseph Sports Club by a narrow margin of 12-11 after both the teams were tied 5-5 at the breather. Daniella Sports Club of Navelim defeated Chubbietes of Porvorim 02-01. Velanky Dhumaskar of St Joseph's Sports Club and Yeslinda Baretto of Nuvem Handballers were adjudged as best player and goalkeeper of the tournament.
MLA of Shiroda, Subhash Shirodkar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of chairman of Goa Handball Association, Ramesh Desai.
