Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC) Paroda edged past Mangor Sports Club 2-1 in the South Goa District Second Division League play-off at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Thursday. Paroda led 1-0 at half time.
The winners started the game in a whirlwind fashion and took the lead in the very 9th minute through Ibon D'Costa. Following a flag kick taken by Elloy Soares, saw Micky Vaz's shot being palmed away by Mangor goalkeeper Paresh Pagi. And, the rebound Ibon made no mistake in putting the ball into the net.
Spurred by the early lead, Paroda upped their ante but their forwards could not add to their tally due to inept shooting by their forwards. At the other end, Mangor had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards fluffed from good position. Mangor had a chance to level the score late in the first half when Biswajit Rajput's feeble push went straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas.
At the other end, Paroda had a golden chance late in the first half but Benny Olveiro's feeble push went into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper Paresh Pagi.
Post resumption, Paroda continued to enjoy the lion's share of exchanges and trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids and had not rival goalkeeper Paresh Pagi pulled off superlatives saves, Mangor could have lost by bigger margin.
Elloy Soares who threatened the rival defence with his speed and dash nearly doubled the lead but Mangor keeper Pagi came to his side's rescue and brought up a good save to deny him a sure goal. Later, Elloy Soares tumbeld at the crucial moments inside the rival penalty box after Mario Fernandes laid him a defence-slitting pass inside the rival penalty box.
Paroda's had a golden chance to increase the tally but Highigines Fernandes was the worst offender as he blasted wide after Miccky Vaz laid him a through pass. But just when thighs began to look good for Mangor they conceded another goal in the 84th minute when striker Mickky's try was parried away by rival keeper Pagi and Miccky pounced on to the rebound to give his team a 2-0 cushion.
Mangor scored the consolation goal in the 90+ 3 (injury time) through a spot kick. When Ray Pereira foated the flag kick inside the rival penalty box and it hit the hand of Paroda defender Brian Faria the referee awarded the penalty.
Royston made no mistake with the resultant spot-kick to send the Paroda goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas the wrong way. With this win, Paroda collected four points from two outings while Mangor suffered second defeat and are yet to open the account from the same encounter.
