Parra Altar Servers registered a convincing 3-0 win against Duler Altar Servers in the third edition of the 7-a-side football tournament for boys organised by Altar servers of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, Moira at AA de Moira Club ground, on Monday. At half time, the score was 1-0 in favour of Parra.

The tournament witnessed participation of 10 teams from Moira, Parra, Duler, Ucassiam, Mapusa, Chorjuem, Nerul, Aldona, Bastora and Pomburpa. The chief guest was Fr Simpliciano Fernandes, Parish priest of Moira and the guest of honour was Denzil Franco, the India international defender who plays for Atlético de Kolkata in the Indian Super League.

Parra began the play on an impressive note as they dictated pace from the middle and soon broke the deadlock in the eighth minute as the talented Osrick Trinidade slotted home a beautiful goal off a solo effort. Finding themselves down by a goal, Duler got into action two minutes later with quick passing and constant counter attacks. However, the entire proceedings of the first half was dominated entirely by Parra.

Crossing over, Parra started with possession play and dominated the mid-field action. Few minutes later, Floyd Periera made it 2-0 for Parra and soon, Joston Cardozo sealed the victory for his side by sending home a beautiful goal off a free kick, 3-0. All the four goals conceded by Duler were from defensive and goalkeeping lapses.

Speaking on the occasion Denzil Franco stated: “To become a great footballer one has to start from scratch and grassroots is where one begins their career. I am grateful to football and Goa. If you remove football out of me I am no-one. I have gone on to travel the world only due to football."Parra took home a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5,000 while the runners-up were awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs 2,500. The other individual prizes awarded were: best striker - Joston Cardozo, Parra, and best goalkeeper - Glen Rodrigues, Duler.

PANAJIChichinim Veterans shocked Candolim Veterans via a tie-breaker sudden death 6-5 in All Goa Panjim Veterans Soccer tournament played at St Cruz ground.
