DULER
Churchill Brothers Sports Club had an easy outing as they trounced SRPF Maharashtra Police by a 6-0 margin in the 15th edition of Goa Police Football Cup organised by Goa Police Sports Cell, played at Duler stadium under floodlights, here on Saturday.
The highlight of the match was a hat-trick from Uttam Rai and a two-goal blitz from Alber Gonsalves. Maharashtra colts had the first good look at the goal where Shubham Daima strike at the first post was blocked for a corner by Churchill keeper Ricardo Cardozo. In the 6th minute Churchill’s Terrence Lobo’s free kick was fisted over the post by Maharashtra keeper Moshin Khan. From the resultant corner by Jovel Martins a low header by Alber Gonsalves landed into the goal, 1-0.
A swift run from almost the centre by Richard Costa who entered the penalty box and drilled a low shot which was brilliantly collected by Maharashtra keeper Moshin Khan. As the match progressed Suraj firm header and Uttam Rai’s strike was blocked by the defenders from close.
The Red Machines doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Uttam Rai darted inside the penalty box from the right flank and slammed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 2-0. A minute before the breather a curling free kick by Terence Lobo was brilliantly finished with a diving header from Alber Gonsalves, 3-0.
On crossing over, after a couple of missed chances, Uttam Rai scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick by scoring in the 58th and 68th minute of play. It was some fine keeping by keeper Moshin who brought three smart saves to deny Alber Gonsalves, Richard Costa and Nicholas Fernandes from scoring. Substitute Abhishek Rawat netted in the sixth goal.
Man of the match was awarded to Uttam Rai of Churchill Brothers.
