The Congress in a letter to Governor Mridula Sinha on Wednesday has asked for details of the location of land identified for the multi-modal logistics park in Panaji, and the details of the land such as area and zone.
In a letter, Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar has also demanded to know how many jobs will be created for Goans in this park, and the nature of these jobs. Citing concerns of current shortage of water and electricity supply to Goans, the Congress has asked for the plan of the provision for the electricity, water supply, and sewage treatment for the park and whether it will affect the existing supply and infrastructure to Goans.
Kawthankar has also asked the governor for proof that the people of Panaji and the surrounding areas and villages were taken into confidence before deciding on the park. The party also demands to know why the people of Goa were not informed of the proposed park in Panaji before the announcement by the Central government in Parliament. “We request you to direct the Government of Goa to issue a white paper on the proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Panaji,” writes Kawthankar.
Kawthankar has raised concerns about Panaji being chosen as a location for the park as “Panaji being the capital city is already congested with scarcity of land.”
Pointing out that no local governing bodies had been consulted, Kawthankar said it was strange that while the announcement had been made in Parliament, at the State level, the government seemed unaware of details.
“It is also very shocking that no local self governing authorities such as Corporation of the City of Panaji, Municipality or Village Panchayats of the surrounding areas have been taken into confidence, nor have public hearings (been) undertaken for a project of this
magnitude.”
Meanwhile, Kawthankar questions from where the land for this park will come when Panaji does not seem to have land enough for its own garbage treatment plant.
