Reliance One defeated Indian Oil Corporation by 11 runs in a high-scoring thriller in Group A opener of the Goa Corporate League 2018 at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim on Sunday.
Put in to bat, Reliance One posted a solid 186/9 largely built by one-down captain Saurabh Tiwary’s 67 (35b, 6x4, 4x6) and wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma’s 43 (19b, 1x4, 5x6). For Indian Oil Corporation, pacer Avesh Khan had impressive returns of 3/29 from his quota.
In reply, Indian Oil Corporation were in the hunt until big-hitting Saurabh Dubey was the sixth batsman to fall for a 6-ball 11 at the score of 169 in 18.2 overs. Indian Oil Corporation eventually ended up on 175/9. For the losing side, opening batsman, Ankush Bains struck 45 (19b, 7x4, 2x6) while wicket-keeper, Pinal Shah made 70 (40b, 7x4, 3x6). Reliance One’s Nideesh with impressive returns of 4/24 including danger-man Saurabh Dubey was named Man of the Match.
In another Group A fixture, tournament debutants GMR Group lost tamely to ONGC. Electing to bat, GMR, posted a meagre 114 from their allotted 20 overs with number three, Utkarsh Singh’s 26 as the innings best score. In the ONGC attack, Sumit Narwal impressed with 3/20.
In the chase, ONGC hardly broke a sweat to get over the line in only 11.3 overs losing only two wickets. Opener Shivam Chaudhary who made a belligerent unbeaten 68 at two-runs a ball with 11 boundaries and a maximum was later adjudged the Man of the Match.
Keeping him company at the end was Milind Kumar with a run-a-ball 13. GMR’s Pratyush Singh claimed both the wickets to fall.
