Reuben Colaco won in the open category of the chess tournament organised by the Goa Chess Association recently.
Reuben, a student of Loyola High School, Margao, scored 5.5 points with five wins and one draw in the online tournament. In the last match, he secured a draw with Vivian Ballikar. Sairaj Vernekar finished second ahead of third-placed Paarth Salvi.
In the girls' field, Sayuri Naik, a student of GS Amonkar Vidya Mandir, Mapusa, won the championship by scoring four points. Srilaximi Kamat finished second, while Jennica Sequeira finished in third position.
IA Sanjay Kavlekar was the chief arbiter of the tournament along with arbiters FA Gautam Tari, FA Swapnil Hoble, FA Dattaram Pinge, coach Wilson Cruz, Dilip Vernekar, Saish Fondekar and Tanishq Kavlekar.
