Uguem’s Rising Stars Club, Sanguem came from behind to beat St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda 2-1 to win the 10th All Goa Fr Agnelo Soccer Cup inter village football tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda at Avedem Panchayat ground on Monday.
St Anthony’s started the game on a positive note and forged ahead in the 8th minute when striker Sucorro Fernandes hooked the ball over the rival goalkeeper. Rising Stars fought back and Anil Gaonkar beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish to score an equaliser.
Post resumption, Rising Stars put up an improved display and Israel Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper for the winner.Rising Stars bagged Rs 40,000 while the St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda were richer by Rs 30,000. Earlier, the President of the club, Francisco Fernandes, welcomed the guests while Nevil Alphonso proposed the vote of thanks. Evon Fernandes compered the function.
Individual prizes: First Scorer of the finals - Succoro Fernandes of St Anthony Sports Club, Best player of the finals - Anil Gaonker of Rising Stars, Best goalkeeper - Wilson Martins of Rising Stars.
