Geno Brand Ambassador Ritviz Parab won the 3rd DDCA All-India Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament held from October 27-31 at Hubballi, Karnataka gaining 38 ELO points from the said event.
After a strong performance at the recently concluded Goa GM tournament, Ritviz playing in Hubballi, put up an impressive show to defeat IM Hegde Ravi Gopal (Karnataka) in the fifth round and Grandmaster Thejkumar MS in the sixth round.
He was in joint second at the end of the penultimate round along with Yashas D, Grandmaster Thejkumar (both Karnataka) and Niraj Saripalli of Goa all with 7 points. Sammed Jaykumar Shete (2342) of Maharastra was enjoying the lead with 7.5 points.
However, in an unlikely turn of events, Sammed lost to Yaahas (2248) and Ritviz won against fellow Salcete player Niraj Saripalli to register yet another victory and win the prestigious title and first prize of Rs. 50000 and trophy.
Yashas D won the second prize and Rs.30000 and trophy while Grandmaster Thejkumar had to contend with the third position and Rs.20000. Niraj Saripalli stood sixth.
Vedant Angle (Goa) won a trophy in the U-8 category scoring 5 points while Tanaish Da Silva won a trophy in the U-8 girls category scoring 3.5 points.
The total prize money was Rs 2,00,000/- plus
trophies.
The tournament was organised Rotary Club of Hubballi North. A total of 243 players participated out of which 98 players were rated.
