MARGAO
Salgaocar FC smashed five goals past Churchill Brothers in their GFA Pro League encounter at Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Tuesday.
Stephane Kamo Bayi opened the scoring for the green brigade in the seventh minute with a well placed header, beating the Churchill keeper. Not long after the opening goal, Salgaocar got their second through the boots of Souvik Das, who smashed in the ball home from long range in the 24th minute. It was the Greens all the way in the first half which ended 2-0.
On resumption, Salgaocar kept up the same momentum which they had in the first half and piled on the pressure on the opposition defence. In the 55th minute, James Fernandes scored the third goal for the Port Towners from a mis-timed shot by Kamo.
Churchill were down and out and the attacks kept flooding their box, keeping the goalkeeper on his toes. In the 66th minute, Liston Colaco was brought down inside the box which earned the Greens a penalty. Stephane took the responsibility and placed his shot to the right of the keeper beyond his reach, 4-0.
Late into the game, Liston again caused problems for Churchill as he walked into the goal with the ball when he blocked the keeper's clearance in the 79th minute for Salgaocar's fifth goal. With this victory, Salgaocar FC move seven points clear at the top with 39 points.
