Salgaocar FC and Goan Football Club were involved in a goalless draw in the Group A of GFA Under-18 League at SAG Artificial Turf, Fatorda on Saturday.
In a tightly contested game, both teams tested each other. Salgaocar initiated the early attacks and attacking midfielder Chaitan Komparpant muffed a sitter with only the rival goalkeeper to beat. At the other end, Goan Football Club too had a good share of exchanges, creating a couple of scoring chances but failed to beat the rival goalkeeper.
Salgaocar FC’s Flezer Gomes then muffed a gilt edged chance with the rival goalkeeper at his mercy. With time running out, Goan FC came close to forging the lead but Sweeden Fernandes’ long ranger sailed over
the crossbar.
Changing over, the script of the match changed as Goan FC played with attacking intent and asserted their midfield supremacy. Goan FC nearly broke the deadlock but striker Romario Da Costa’s snap shot was parried away by the Salgaocar goalkeeper. In the 58th minute, Arron Baretto was handed a golden opportunity to score for Salgaocar colts but with no real pressure from the rival defencer, his goalbound shot was cleared by a
rival defender.
With this draw, Salgaocar FC took their tally to four points from two matches, while Goan Football Club collected one point from
one match.
