Salgaocar held goalless by Calangute Assn

Salgaocar Football Club and Calangute Association played out a goalless draw in their Goa Professional League round three match at Duler Stadium, on Saturday.

In the ninth minute, Calangute Association’s Rajat Chopdekar had the first crack at the goal but the shot was well blocked by the rival keeper, Bruno Colaco. In the 25th minute, Salgaocar’s Varinder Singh took a long shot on goal, which was blocked by Jason D’Mello.

In the 41st minute, Salgaocar’s Thangjam Singh was yellow-carded by the referee for a rough tackle on Avrhishto Fernandes. In the last-gasp scrap for the goal, Calangute Association's Gaurish Naik was also cautioned in added-on time of two minutes in the first session, which also saw Salgaocar’s Pawan Kumar and Calangute keeper Jason being flashed yellow cards by the referee. In the first half action of very less thrills, Salgaocar had three shots on goal whereas Calangute tested the rival keeper twice.

Post Resumption, Salgaocar FC replaced Jason Barbosa with Gilbert Oliviera while eight minutes later, Umesh Harijan came in for Varinder Singh. Umesh immediately made an impact, heading at goal off a cross from Rosario Mendes but missed the mark in the 58th minute. Umesh had another chance, but again headed over the crossbar off a cross from Gilbert in the 62nd minute.Calangute Association missed a brilliant chance to score in the 72nd minute when Felix Chidi Odili took a powerful shot but it went wide. In the very next minute, Salgaocar’s Martin Scott was yellow-carded for a rough tackle on Sachin Gawas. Calangute Association missed another golden opportunity in the 75th minute when Yogesh Kadam received a cross from Sachin but failed to convert after colliding with the keeper.
