MARGAO
A brilliant brace by striker Liston Colaco guided Salgaocar FC to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem in the GFA Pro League at Government School playground, Ambelim on Monday. Salgaocar led 1-0 at the breather.
Salgaocar were off to a flying start and surged ahead in the ninth minute when midfielder James Fernandes floated a freekick inside the rival box and Keita Boubacar nicely headed in past Guardian Angel goalkeeper Ram Sroop. The early goal enlivened Salgaocar forwards, who piled more pressure on the rival citadel but the opposition citadel survived the sustained onslaught of the Greens.
Meanwhile, Guardian Angel found the going tough but failed to take a chance that came their way in the 38th minute when Alson Fernandes sent a throw in from the left to catch the Salgaocar backline off guard but substitute striker Levino Fernandes made a mess of the golden opportunity, shooting wide with only goalkeeper Bruno Colaco to beat. With the match heading to the half time, Salgaocar striker Liston Colaco received the ball from Gilbert Olveira but his snap shot went wide.
In the second half, Salagaocar came out a transformed unit and scored three more goals. Brian Mascarenhas' flag kick from the right was gently headed by midfielder Macroy Peixoto and central defender Balwinder Singh finished the job to make it 2-0.
The Green brigade used the width and pace on the flanks to probe Guardian Angel citadel further and, in the 50th minute, midfielder Olveira sent a defence splitting pass to striker Colaco who stroked a brilliant right-footer that sailed to the second post with goalkeeper Ramsrrop stranded again. Colaco added another in the 66th minute after he got the ball about 15 yards out, cut past rival defenders to send a rasping drive that beat Ram Sroop in Guardian Angel goal.
