MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club defeated Ambelim Sports Club 3-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the Gold Silver Rolling Trophy football tournament, organised by Navelim Sporting Club at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Friday.
Areal dominated the match but failed to break the deadlock in the first half. Ambelim’s Arron missed an early opportunity, while Areal’s Dresoan struck the crossbar with a long-range effort. The teams went into the break goalless.
Areal stepped up their attack after the interval, with Josley Gomes scoring twice in the 50th and 58th minutes. Stevan Gomes added another goal in the 38th minute as Areal completed a comfortable victory.
Josley Gomes of Sao Jose de Areal was named Player of the Match and received the award from assistant sports secretary Franky D’Souza.
