Sao Jose de Areal prevail over Cuncolim Union

Sao Jose de Areal edged Cuncolim Union 4-3 in the tie-breaker after the two sides played out an exciting 2-2 draw in regulation time in the Chandor Seamen Trophy football tournament, organised by Chandor Club at the Chandor Church Complex Ground.

Cuncolim Union made a flying start, taking the lead in the sixth minute through Wilson Fernandes. Sao Jose de Areal responded six minutes later, with Josley Gomes finding the equaliser to make it 1-1.

Sao Jose de Areal then took the lead in the 36th minute when Azittan Viegas scored to put his side 2-1 ahead at the break.

Cuncolim Union came out strongly after the interval and restored parity in the 46th minute through Dawlat Dessai.

With neither side able to find a winning goal in the remainder of the match, the issue was decided by a tie-breaker, where Sao Jose de Areal held their nerve to prevail 4-3.

Bersal Viegas, Stanley Olivera, Josley Gomes and Ashwin Costa converted their penalties for Sao Jose de Areal, while Wilson Fernandes, Fraser Fernandes and Viraj Velip scored for Cuncolim Union.

Bersal Viegas was adjudged Player of the Match. The award was presented by Patwin Fizardo, Executive Member of the Goa Football Association.
