MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club booked their place in the final of the 45th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy Football Tournament, organised by Navelim Sporting Club, after defeating Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda 1-0 in the second semifinal at Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Monday.
Josley Gomes scored the decisive goal in the second half to send Sao Jose into the title clash against United Club of Verna.
The match began at a brisk pace, with both teams showing urgency in attack and keeping the sizeable crowd engaged. However, both sides squandered chances as the game remained goalless in the first half.
Sao Jose eventually broke the deadlock through a swift counter-attack. Goalkeeper Bresal Viegas played the ball forward to Gomes, who controlled it, dribbled past the defence and calmly placed his shot into the far corner beyond the goalkeeper.
Viegas was named Man of the Match, with GFA executive committee member Andrew Ferrao presenting the award.
The final will be played on October 2 at 4.30 p.m., with United Club of Verna taking on Sao Jose de Areal.
