In a gripping football match between St Anthony’s Sports Club Assolda and SC Davorlim, Davorlim emerged victorious 1-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the 16th Super Soccer tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at St John the Baptist Dando ground, Benaulim on Wednesday.
The only goal of the match came early in the eighth minute, with Roysten scoring for Davorlim, leaving Assolda trailing and demoralised. However, Assolda managed to regain control, with players like Briven Dias and Vale Fernandes asserting their influence in the midfield, preventing Davorlim from adding to their lead in the first half.
The second half witnessed Assolda's dominance, particularly Vitorino causing trouble for Davorlim's defence. Unfortunately for Assolda, Sydney was shown a red card for a handball offence. Roysten Colaco's outstanding performance earned him the title of Man of the Match, awarded by Tenison Rosa.
Ambelim SC move into quarterfinals
Ambelim SC registered a solitary goal victory over CAC Cansaulim to enter the quarterfinals of the 29th Mandopa Cup inter-village football tournament played at Mandopa ground, Navelim on Wednesday. Ralio Pinto netted the match-winner for Ambelim in the 19th minute.
Novowado Sporting reach last-eight
Novowado Sporting Club defeated Unjirim United 4-3 via the tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinals of the 9-a-side inter-ward football tournament organised by Sporting Club of Virabhat, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim on Wednesday.
Novowado took the lead in the 8th minute through Anthony Fernandes. In the 22nd minute, Velroy Antao equalised. In the 39th minute, Unjirim United got a penalty kick and scored their second goal through Alister Costa. Novowado got many chances to equalise but Dylan Shardinha, the goalkeeper of Unjirim United, made great saves.
In the 45th minute, Anthony Fernandes of Novowado equalised. In the tiebreaker, Novowado proved to be the better shooters. Anthony Fernandes of Novowado Sporting Club was named the Man of the Match.
Cortalim Villagers selection trials
VASCO: Cortalim Villagers Social and Welfare Sports Club will participate in the Under-15 and Under-13 tournaments of the Goa Football Association. The selection trials for the boys' teams will be held on August 18 for U-15 and on August 19 for U-13 at Cansaulim Sports Complex at 3.30 pm. Those interested may report at the ground before 3.30 pm.
