Two goals in four minutes towards the fag end of the match enabled Navelim Villagers Union to repeat last year's triumph in the Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side football at Church ground, Chinchinim.
The final played on August 15 saw Navelim edge past Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 2-0. The match was goalless at halftime. Clinton Colasso (57th minute) and Preston Costa (59th) scored for Navelim.
Preston Costa of Navelim bagged the Man of the Final award and was given a prize for the final goal of the tournament. Jeet Gupta was named the goalkeeper of the final as well as the goalkeeper of the tournament. Alvito D'Cunha, former India player and brand ambassador of East Bengal, was the chief guest. The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 while the runners-up received Rs 40,000. Fr Alex D'Souza, parish priest of Chinchinim, and Cuncolim Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan were the guests of honour.
