MARGAO: Sporting Club Davorlim staged a spirited comeback from two goals down to defeat Sao Jose de Areal 3-2 and book their place in the semi-finals of the UCV Cup, organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at the Church Ground, Chinchinim.
Sao Jose de Areal made a dream start, taking the lead in the third minute when Nevil Fernandes headed home a pinpoint cross from Jesley. Bersal Viegas doubled the advantage in the 13th minute, putting Areal firmly in control.
Davorlim responded before the break as Selwyn Miranda pulled one back in the 19th minute to leave the score at 2-1 at half-time.
Milton Colaco restored parity in the 39th minute with a well-taken equaliser before Prince Figuerado completed the turnaround four minutes later, striking the decisive goal in the 43rd minute to give Davorlim a 3-2 lead.
Sao Jose de Areal pushed hard in search of an equaliser during the closing stages, but Davorlim's defence stood firm to preserve the advantage and seal a place in the last four.
Selwyn Miranda of Sporting Club Davorlim was named Player of the Match. The award was presented by Sharmila Gracias, Deputy Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua.
