Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim beat Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda 3-2 to enter the semi-finals of All Goa St Anthony's Festival inter village football tournament organized by St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda at Panchayat ground, Assolda on Sunday. Santa Cruz were trailing 0-2 at half time.
Fr Agnel started the game in attacking fashion and pushed their opponents on the back foot and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Sezvil Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Buoyed by the lead, Fr Agnel intensified their attacks and doubled the lead in the 35th minute when Royston Lima punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
Post resumption, Santa Cruz raised the tempo and mounted good pressure on the rival goal. At the other end, Fr Agnel slackened in their pace and allowed their rivals to launch forward. Santa Cruz efforts bore fruit in the 42nd minute when Elrin Viegas reduced the deficits. Spurred by the reducer, Santa Cruz raided the rival goal and unleashed a barrage of attacks. Elirin then neutralized the lead when he placed the ball to the far corner of the net. With time running out, Raju Cardozo struck the match winner as his stiff shot crashed into the net.
