Sergio Lobera returns as Mumbai City FC faces Odisha FC tonight

Panaji: A highly anticipated match is set to take place tonight at the Mumbai Football Arena, where Mumbai City FC will take on Odisha FC at 7:30 PM. This game marks the return of Sergio Lobera, the former head coach of Mumbai City FC, who is now leading Odisha FC. Lobera is well-remembered for guiding Mumbai City FC to a historic double in the 2020-21 season, making his return an emotional moment for fans.

Both teams are eager for a win. Odisha FC is looking to break a losing streak in away games, while Mumbai City FC hopes to improve their start to the season.

Mumbai City FC has a strong history against Odisha FC, having scored at least two goals in each of their last eight meetings. Currently, they are on a five-match unbeaten streak against the Juggernauts and will aim to maintain this offensive edge, supported by their dedicated fans.

The team, coached by Petr Kratky, has shown impressive attacking play, averaging 65.3 entries into the final third per game, the second highest in the league. However, they will need to convert more of these chances into goals to secure a victory.

Odisha FC has struggled defensively in away games, conceding two or more goals in their last four matches. Coach Sergio Lobera will emphasize the need for better defensive discipline, especially against a strong Mumbai City FC attack. The team must avoid giving their opponents too much space.

Despite these concerns, Odisha FC has been effective from set pieces, with 56% of their goals this season coming from this situation. Key players like Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall, who have previous titles with Mumbai City FC, will play a crucial role in their efforts tonight.

In their ten encounters in the Indian Super League (ISL), Mumbai City FC has won six times, while Odisha FC has secured three victories. Only one match has ended in a draw.

Mumbai City FC’s coach, Petr Kratky, expressed optimism after his team’s recent win against FC Goa. “We are on the right pathway,” he stated, highlighting the importance of teamwork. “We still need to improve a lot, but the boys are fighting until the last minute, and that’s crucial.”

On the other side, Odisha FC's Sergio Lobera is calling for more from his players despite their recent win against East Bengal FC. “We need to be ambitious and we need to improve,” he said, stressing that results should not change his coaching mentality.
