The 20th edition of the Goa State Under-17 School Tennis Ball Cricket Championship for boys and girls concluded on November 30, with Sharada English High School, Marcel winning the boys’ title and Government High School, Amona claiming the girls’ championship.
Organised by Shree Sharada English High School in collaboration with the Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association (GTBCA) and the Sports Authority of Goa, the tournament was held from November 26 to 30 at the school ground in Marcel.
A total of 43 boys' teams and 29 girls' teams participated in the five-day championship, which featured thrilling matches and standout performances from Goa's young talent.
In the girls’ final, Government High School, Amona triumphed over Sacred Heart High School, Parra by 9 runs. Batting first, the Amona school posted 55/3 in 6 overs, with Stensila Hasda scoring a vital 29. In response, Sacred Heart managed 46/4 in their chase with a strong effort from Pooja Rathod (20).
In a gripping boys’ final, Sharada English High School defeated Shivaji Raje High School, Sal by 15 runs. Sharada batted first, managing 41/2 in 6 overs. Swarit Gaude (11) and Paras Gaonkar (12) top-scored. In reply, Shivaji Raje could only muster 26/7 in their allotted 6 overs, with Aayan Mahapule (1/6) and Krutharth Gaude (3/7) leading a superb bowling effort for Sharada.
The closing ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Sanjay Naik, Excise Sub Inspector and chief guest; Atul Lawande, guest of honour; and representatives from the GTBCA and various educational institutions.
