Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, Canacona completed a double triumph, winning both the men’s and women’s titles at the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Cross Country Championship 2026-27 at the university campus, Taleigao, on Saturday.
In the men’s team event, Shree Mallikarjun College topped the standings with 38 points. Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem finished runners-up with 55 points, while Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem took third place with 60 points.
Shree Mallikarjun College also dominated the women’s section, finishing first with 26 points. Quepem Government College secured second place with 34 points, followed by Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, with 53 points.
The championship featured a 10km race for both men and women. The races were flagged off by Dr Satyavan Harmalkar, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim.
In the individual men’s event, Nikhil Gaude of GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, emerged winner in 35:33. Sonu Kumar Yadav of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, finished second in 35:37, while Sushant Gaonkar of Shree Mallikarjun College was third in 35:47.
Sakshi Kale of Don Bosco College, Panaji, won the women’s individual race in 47:39. Rosary College’s Fatima Braganza was second in 48:35, while Shalu Chauhan of Government College, Quepem, finished third in 49:06.
Goa University Registrar Prof Sundar Dhuri, along with Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports Balachandra B. Jadar, presented trophies and medals to the winners.
As part of National Sports Day celebrations, floral tributes were also paid to legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand during the prize distribution ceremony.
