Shree Nagesh Maharudra Sports Club defeated Agassaim Youth Club 3-1 to qualify for the play-offs of the Goa Football Association's Third Division League (Ilhas Zone), at Agassaim ground,
on Tuesday.
Shree Nagesh Maharudra in their previous fixture blanked Batim Youth Club 9-0 and intended to play the game with the same intensity as they faced Agassaim. The Curca side started the match with attacking play and soon managed to find the breakthrough through Sandesh Kunkolkar with barely two minutes on the clock.
Struck by the reverse, the home side rallied and kept the Curca side at bay with constant raids on their citadel and managed to equalise in the 10th minute as Jesroy Fernandes dribbled past a couple of defenders before netting home to make it all square. At half-time, the scoreline
read 1-1.
Post resumption, Shree Nagesh came back stronger and restored their one-goal advantage through Mayur Vernekar in the 55th minute. The Agassaim side however came up with a dozen of attacks trying to find the equaliser but their strikers faltered at the goal.
Just when it looked like the match would end with a 2-1 scoreline, Shree Nagesh's Rohit Shirodkar scored with a volley from top of the box to make it 3-1 in the final moments of the match.
