Siddhanth Singh and Nirmay Gaur of The Gera School, Old Goa emerged champions in the Senior and Junior divisions respectively at the Goa Regional Finals of the School Scrabble Championships, organised by the Scrabble Association of Goa recently.
The inaugural state-level championship featured 18 selected students representing seven schools from across Goa.
In the Senior Division for Classes VII and VIII, Siddhanth finished on top, with Nia Mahatme of St Andrew’s ICSE School, Vasco securing the runner-up spot. Both have qualified to represent Goa at the All India School Scrabble Championship 2026 in Bengaluru.
Michael Falcao of Don Bosco High School, Panaji finished third, followed by Sakshan Salelkar of Dr K B Hedgewar Vidyamandir, Sankhali, and Piyush Das of Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda.
In the Junior Division for Classes V and VI, Nirmay claimed the title, while H Sriram of Mount Litera Zee School, Mormugao finished second. Both have qualified for the national finals in Bengaluru.
Neil John Paul of St Andrew’s ICSE School was third, followed by Shivanshi Gupta of J A Chopdekar Memorial Government High School, Pernem, and Anaida Powar of Mount Litera Zee School.
The top three finishers in each division received trophies, while all players placed in the top five were presented Merit Certificates.
The championship, being held for the first time this year, will now become an annual event. It is part of a nationwide initiative by the Scrabble Association of India to promote the game in schools and develop vocabulary, numeracy, reasoning, strategic thinking and decision-making skills among students.
