Signals win Seamen Trophy

Signals, Chandor shunted out Kumborda Boys, Curtorim 4-3 via tiebreaker to win the 15th Seamen Trophy football tournament organised by Villa Marex Boys, Chandor at Chandor ground on Sunday.
In an evenly fought battle, both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Kumborda's breakthrough came in the 20th minute when striker Godfrey punished the rival defence with a neat placement.
Stung by that setback, Signals regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp but the opposition defenders denied them from scoring. Kumborda Boys had a chance to increase their tally but their forwards misfired from handshaking
distance.
Post resumption, Signals came back strongly and unleashed a flurry of attacks and in the 48th minute Ryan cancelled the lead with a stiff grounder. After levelling the scores, both teams went all out in search of the match winner but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
In the tie-breaker, Rayan, Rovan, and Presley were on target for the winners while Raju and Godfrey converted for Kumborda Boys. Signals, Chandor were richer by Rs 62,000 and a glittering trophy while Kumborda Boys had to settle for Rs 46,000 and a trophy. Fr Mario Noronha, Assistant Parish Priest, Chandor Church, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour, Meenakshi Gaonkar, Zilla Panchayat Member, and Celina Furtado, Sarpanch of Chandor.

Goa to host nat badminton tournament

Goa Badminton Association in collaboration with Margao Shuttlers Club and the Sports Authority of Goa will host an All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament for the first time in the State from October 9 to 15.
