Sao Jose de Areal scored a convincing 3-0 win over Candolim Sports Club to clinch the London Trophy, at Goa Velha ground, on Tuesday.
The match started with the teams trying to surge ahead and make a statement and the play was mostly restricted to the midfield. However, Sao Jose de Areal took control of the game and constantly attacked before they found the breakthrough.
In the 15th minute, Fredrick Endro sent in an inch perfect corner to Vishal Fernandes but the striker bounced his header and the keeper made an astonishing save to keep the scores level.
Sao Jose de Areal kept the hunt on and soon scored in the 17th minute as Alviton Silva shot through past the defenders and the keeper into the rival nets to make it 1-0. The score remained 1-0 in favour of Sao Jose de Areal at half time.
Post resumption, the Areal side came back stronger and netted yet another goal to double their lead as Prisco Moura came off the bench to score with a header in the 58th minute. Prisco soon finished off the contest as he chipped the ball over the rival keeper in the 68th minute to take the game away from the
Candolim side.
