An amazing two-goal blitz in the second half from Joywin Carneiro and Chatur Naik enabled Football Club de Bardez to hold Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim to a 2-2 draw in the Goa Professional League, at Duler Stadium, here
on Monday.
The Cavelossim side went into the breather with a two-goal cushion as Mathew Colaco and Allwyn Vaz scored for the South Goan club. Bardez made a brilliant rally to produce a draw and split points with Cavelossim. After the drawn result, Bardez climbed to the 8th place with 18 points from 19 matches, while Cavelossim stay on 11th position with 12 points
from 16 matches.
Bardez coach Climax Lawrence made three changes to his side by starting with Joyson D’Souza, Ronil Azavedo and Krishnanath Shirodkar in the playing XI, after his team lost to Guardian Angel SC by five goals in their last league match. Cavelossim, who edged Panjim Footballers in the previous round match, also made two changes -- Aaron Antao and Allwyn Vaz given starts.
It was Cavelossim who could have scored one of the fastest goals in the ongoing league when in the very 40th second their midfielder Moises D’Sa sent a 35-yard short at the goal, but Bardez keeper David Chauhan came with a brilliant block. It did not take long for Cavelossim to forge ahead when in the 10th minute, Moises snatched the ball from Bardez defender Lalbabu Matho and squared it to Mathew Colaco, who slotted the ball past Bardez keeper David, 1-0.
Minutes later, Bardez had a glorious chance to level terms when striker Stany Braganza had just keeper Razak Devsor to beat but he shot tamely into the waiting hands of the custodian. After some minutes of midfield play, in the 36th minute, Cavelossim consolidated their lead through striker Allwyn when he finished the ball in the nets after receiving a perfect through pass from Moises from the outside the box.
On resumption of play, the Bardez outfit came with renewed ideas and should have reduced the margin in the 50th minute but Cavelossim keeper Razak made a brave save when he nicely parried away Bardez midfielder Inacio Colaco’s goal-bound free-kick for a corner. However, seven minutes later, Bardez finally managed to reduce the margin when Joywin Carneiro slammed the ball into the empty nets after receiving a cut-back from Kirtikesh Gadekar from inside
the box, 2-1.
Just couple of minutes later, Cavelossim should have scored their insurance goal but Moises, the midfielder, failed to control his shot with the Bardez custodian at his mercy. At the other end, striker Chatur Naik -- who was brought in from the bench by coach Climax Lawrence -- made his presence felt as he drilled his shot into the goal after Sherman Vaz had done the spadework for the vital equaliser for his side, 2-2.
In the last quarter of the match, Cavelossim had two more chances to score and return home with a victory but substitute striker Semson Fernandes was thwarted by Bardez keeper David in a one-to-one, while Moises’ shot from close was once again blocked by David in the Bardez goal.
