Bardez Football Club tasted their first win in the Goa Professional League this season as they registered a well-deserved 3-1 win over Calangute Association at the Duler stadium, here on Thursday.
Bardez FC went into the breather with a two goals cushion with Cho Lepcha and Richard Cardoz scoring. Nicolau Colaco pulled a goal back for Calangute while Richard Cardoz netted his brace.
Both the team’s coaches made just one change in their Starting XI. Bardez FC coach Savio Dsouza fielded Sonam Bhutia in the defence while Calangute in charge
Agostinho Dias brought back keeper Savio Paes,
after the latter missed the
last league match due to injury.
Before the start of the fourth league match, a one minute silence was observed in memory of the departed soul of Jessy Luis, ex GFA football referee and match commissioner. He was also the president of the Goa Football Referees Association a while ago.
The first quarter of the match was mostly restricted to midfield, with the keepers at both the ends being hardly tested. It was only in the 18th minute that Bardez FC came close to opening their account. Striker ONG Lepcha was well positioned inside the penalty box,
but instead of taking a crack at the Calangute goal, passed the ball to Aniket Agarwadekar, whose strike at the goal was comfortably collected by keeper Savio Paes.
Just two minutes later, the Bardez colts caught the beach side lads napping where a cross by Richard Cardoz was connected by Carl Dsouza which rebounded off the post and the ball rolled to Cho Lepcha, whose stiff grounder landed into the back of the nets to make it 1-0.
In the 33rd minute, Bardez should have further consolidated their lead but once again Aniket saw his weak strike at the goal off a cross from Richard land into the keeper’s hand.
However, in the 43rd minute, Bardez doubled their lead when an unmarked Richard Cardoz darted inside the penalty box and drilled a low shot into the far corner of the goal to make it 2-0.
In the very 2nd minute on crossing over, it was almost curtains down for the beach side lads.
Rungsing Muinao sent a pinpoint cross at the far end to substitute Sanjay Vengurlekar, who was totally unmarked but the latter’s header missed the target by a whisker.
The Calangute outfit got back into the match when their skipper Nicolau Colaco headed the ball into the goal off a Dominic Fernandes free kick to make 1-2.
Calangute’s joy lasted for a short period as the Bardez colts made it 3-1. Cho Lepcha collecting a pass from ONG Lepcha, latched a right footer, which rebounded off the far post and the ball travelled to Richard Cardoz, whose grounder crashed into the back of the nylons.
In another game, Corps of Singals came from behind to hold Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem 1-1 at 3MTR Ground, Navelim on
Thursday.
