Sao Jose de Areal beat Curtorim Gymkhana 7-6 via the tiebreaker to enter into the quarterfinals of the Cana Benaulim Super Soccer inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association and played at St John Baptista football ground, Benaulim on Sunday.
In a match played between two title contenders in front of over 500 spectators, Daryl Costa opened the scoreline for Areal in the fifth minute. In the second half, Anselmo Fernandes equalised for Curtorim Gymkhana before Daryl Costa doubled the lead for Areal in the 47th minute.
The joy was, however, short-lived as Rhay Dias equalised for Curtorim Gymkhana with a few minutes left for the final whistle. In the tiebreaker, Sao Jose de Areal proved to be the better shooters.
Eddie nets winner for Calangute Veterans
Calangute Veterans secured a 2-1 victory over Football Mogi Veterans to move ahead in the Pogo Boys Cup 6.0 veterans football tournament at Merces Church ground on Sunday.
Marcus opened the scoring in the 10th minute by dribbling past a defender and netting the ball, giving Football Mogi an early lead. Jerry later equalised for Calangute Veterans with a tap-in from a low cross. Eddie then struck a wonderful goal to seal the win for Calangute Veterans.
Sarthak Naik gets FIDE rating
PANAJI: Sarthak Naik from Ponda taluka got FIDE rating of 1428 in Std format. He is a student of Sharada Mandir School, Old Goa. Ponda Taluka Chess Association congratulated him for his excellent performance. Sarthak was recently felicitated by Mahesh Candolkar (President of Goa Chess Association) at the annual awards function of the Ponda Taluka Chess Association.
