Sporting Clube de Goa displayed a complete dominance as they thrashed Guardian Angel Sports Club 8-2 in the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Thursday.

The game saw a total of five different goal scorers as Alesh Sawant, Ganesh Thakur, Marcus Mascarenhas, George Souza and Clemente Joseph got their names on

the scoresheet.

The Sporting Clube side named an unchanged squad that won their opening game against Goan FC 3-0 while the Guardian Angel side made two changes to their side that lost the opening game to Goan FC. Alson Fernandes and Sanwil Costa were brought in as two changes for a must-win game for the Curchorem side.

George D’Souza of the Sporting side broke the record to score the fastest goal in GSPL history as he scored directly from kick-off within the first five seconds itself. Finding themselves a goal down early on, Sporting began to control the game and move forward attacking the rival post.

Alesh Sawant doubled the Flaming Oranje lead in the 5th minute with a curling left footer that hit the top corner post and landed into the nets, 2-0. Nothing seemed to be stopping the Pro League champions as after two missed attempts, Ganesh Thakur ran down from midfield and shot low into the nets, giving the side a much

deserved 3-0 lead.

The Curchorem side failed to create any potent chances as constant attacks from Sporting made them drop low almost the entire time. Alesh Sawant completed his brace in the 25th minute after receiving a short pass from Ganesh Thakur. The side completed a five-star first half performance by scoring the fifth goal after Ganesh’s shot pass was headed in by Marcus Mascarenhas as they went into the break with a 5-0 lead.

On resumption, Alesh came close to scoring his hat-trick but his powerful long ranger was tapped away by the Guardian keeper Fayaz Shaikh. But he made no mistake to add his third goal as Alesh received a cross in from Cajetan and tapped into

an open target.

But the Curchorem side managed to add their first goal as Perryson Rebello scored in a perfect curler, 6-1. But that did not stop the charge of the recently crowned Police Cup winners as Clemente Joseph converted from the spot as the game continued to witness more goals with Ganesh Thakur adding another, 8-1.

The Curchorem side were completely outplayed with the number of goals and attempts as the Sporting side kept trying to add more goals. Aniston Fernandes managed to reduce the margin by scoring in the added-on time. By virtue of the win, Sporting Clube and Goan FC qualified for the knock-out stages from Group A.
