Sporting Colts slam five past Goa Velha

Sporting Clube de Goa U-16 continued their opening form into the second match of GFA U-16 league, trouncing Goa Velha SC 5“0 at Don Bosco Grounds, Panaji.

Richard Cardoz (8’&32’), Alister Anthony (29’), Karan Bagkar (35’), Anthony Fernandes (50’) got on the score sheet for Sporting Clube de Goa.

Sporting forward Richard was on target again right at the start when he received a good through ball from Dattaraj Gaonkar to put it past the Goa Velha keeper and give an early lead to the young oranje. At the half hour mark Richard came back haunting the Goa Velha defenders as he made a brilliant run on the left to set up Alister with a fantastic cross, the latter got it right on target to make it 2-0. Alister returned the favour in less than 3 minutes by sending in a mouth-watering cross to Richard who controlled the ball well before placing it past the keeper. Karan wrapped up the first half in style when he latched on to a good ball from Alister to make it 4-0 in favour of Sporting at the break.

In the second half, Goa Velha players picked up the tempo and put out a good resistance. It was the Goa Velha keeper’s heroics which ensured the score gap didn't widen much. However in the 50th minute Anthony Fernandes managed to poke one in through a thickly populated Goa Velha box making it 5-0 for Sporting. Rest of the second half saw a good contest between the Sporting’s attack and Goa Velha’s defense. With this win, Sporting have collected 6 points from 2 matches played and sit comfortably on top of the table.

In another match, FC Goa overcame Ave Maria Atheletic and Walkers Club 2-1 at Cansaulim grounds on Friday morning. FC Goa created scare in the rival citadel in the very 2nd minute when Asfin Pinto's rasping volley was thwarted by Mark Fernandes and later Asfin Pinto spurned an easy chance At the other end, Ave Maria's Fabian D'Cunha made a solo run inside the rival penalty box but Chadel Fernandes averted the danger by fisting away the shot. Ave Maria rocked the rival citadel in the 17th minute when Ashward Baretto's smart header beat the rival goalkeeper hands down. Crossing over, Chadel Fernandes neutralized the lead with a spot-kick after rival defender fouled Chadel Fernandes inside the rival penalty box. Tristen Fernandes struck the match-winner in the 58th minute after Ashford D'Silva was ejected by referee for a second questionable card.Tristen Fernandes and Chadel Fernandes muffed a sitter.
