Sporting Clube de Goa registered a fluent 3-1 win over Dempo Sports Club in the GFA’s Charity Match played under floodlights at Duler grounds, here on Sunday.
The few spectators that came to witness the match were more engrossed in having a look at the much spoken about trophy of the Bandodkar Gold Cup, which was displayed in the VIP gallery. On the field, Sporting went into the breather with a one-goal lead.
A low shot from close by Sporting’s Victorino Fernandes in the 35th minute was blocked by keeper Tyson Caiado but substitute Marcus Mascarenhas was at hand to slot the ball into the net, 1-0. A minute before the breather, a power-packed right-footer from Naveen Mendes was blocked by Sporting keeper Melroy Fernandes. Dempo levelled terms in the 53rd minute as Josley Dias headed the ball home from close, 1-1.
Sporting had two chances to take the lead but efforts by Alesh Sawant and Victorino were saved by Dempo keeper Tyson. However in the 82nd minute, Victorino scored with a neat header while in the 89th minute Glan Martins scored with a rasping 30-yard rasping right footer to clinch a 3-1 win.
