In a solemn and inspiring ceremony held at the Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old Goa, the John Paul II Foundation for Sports, Goa, organised a Holy Mass dedicated especially to sports people.
The mass which was part of the Exposition of the sacred relics of Saint Francis Xavier, saw a large turnout of players, coaches, administrators, sports media, medical personnel, parents, and friends of those involved in sports.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Jerenimo Fernandes and Adv Fr Franky Fernandes, who delivered heartfelt messages emphasising the importance of faith, perseverance, and the unique role of sports in bringing communities together.
The John Paul II Foundation for Sports which is part of the Archdiocese of Goa is dedicated to promoting the values of faith, integrity, and community through sports. The Foundation supports various initiatives that integrate spiritual growth with athletic excellence, aiming to build a community of sportspeople who are not only skilled but also grounded in Christian values.
One of the highlights of the event was the release of the book titled “Christian Sports Missionary “ A Soldier of God.” The main celebrant, Fr. Jerenimo Fernandes, unveiled the book in the presence of key members of the Foundation. Copies of the book were then distributed to the attendees, symbolizing a commitment to integrating faith and sportsmanship.
