A deadly spell of off spin bowling by Anish Mhaddolkar (8-0-24-5) helped Sportsweek CC from Margao to beat Madel Yuvak Sangh by 52 runs and win the GCA ‘B’ Division championship at Porvorim grounds.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Sportsweek skipper Ashish Patnekar must have rued his decision as Madel bowlers Atif and Kaustubh from Pune ran through the Sportsweek line-up to reduce them to 66 for 7 at one stage. But some gritty batting by Vassudev Kundaikar (31) and Darshan Karekar (49) and their 60-run partnership for the eighth wicket bailed out Sportsweek as they finished at 172 for 9 in 40 overs.
Atif Sayyad (2/31), Kaustubh Bakare (3/33) were the pick of the Madel bowlers. Somesh, Vidur and Vishant too a wicket apiece.
Apart from Anish, Heramb Parab (2/19), Amey Kossambe (2/26) and Prashant Lotlikar took one wicket as Sportsweek contained the Madel batsmen. Somesh Potekar and Akash Patel who crossed double figures were the only batsmen to counter the Sportsweek bowling and their side was all out for 120 in 32.6 overs.
