Sportsweek South Zone champs

A fine all-round performance by Amey Kossambe (50 and 2 wickets) and a fifty by Sujay Kamat (58) enabled Sportsweek CC from Margao to beat star studded New Vaddem Sports Club by 36 runs in the South Zone ‘B’ Division finals played at Sanguem.

A fine all-round performance by Amey Kossambe (50 and 2 wickets) and a fifty by Sujay Kamat (58) enabled Sportsweek CC from Margao to beat star studded New Vaddem Sports Club by 36 runs in the South Zone ‘B’ Division finals played at Sanguem.

Winning the toss and electing to field, the New Vaddem pacers could not get the breakthrough as Nagappa Konnur (28) and Sujay Kamat stitched a 68-run opening partnership.

With this base, Amey Kossambe and Vasudev Kundaikar (39 of 28 balls) stepped up the pace for Sportsweek to finish at 213 for 7 in 40 overs, losing three wickets to three balls, thus ensuring a hat-trick to Pune bowler Shripad Nimbalkar (3 for 29). Rohan Fund and Tirokar claimed a wicket apiece.

Sportsweek fast bowler Heramb Parab started with a bang by bowling out opener Pradeep Dabholkar off the second ball but the Pune pair of Shripad Nimbalkar (25) and Akshay Padval (37) steadied the New Vaddem's innings with a 67-run second wicket partnership.

But Vasudev (3 for 27) struck by inducing an edge from Akshay which was caught at slip by Vicky Nevgi. After the wicket of Pune player Rohan Fund (33), New Vaddem lost steam and finished at 177 for 9 in 40 overs.

Schoolboy Anish Mhaddolkar (1 for 37) scalped Nimbalkar while Amey Kossambe (2 for 34) and Karan Dongre (3 for 18) bowled well for Sportsweek.Sportsweek now await the North winner for the all Goa final.
